![]() This birch (?) is now 8 years old. The same age as the superstore it lives by. By planting local trees in the superstores' land we help to ensure they remain local, and will reclaim the superstore when people finally desert them and start living again. Unfortunately I ran out of film before we discovered that the store had, when redeveloping (read: 'expanding') the car park, discovered an oak and holly we had planted together. They assumed they were 'officially' there, and though they destroyed all the flower beds, they made a small fenced off lawn around these two trees. We were amazed. |
A three year old hawthorn recolonising the south downs at the back of the superstore car park. The seeds for these came from a patch of scrub about half a kilometre away. They sprouted in drawers from old discarded furniture, which had been filled with soil and put in a backyard. |
To a wallflower, a concrete wall is as good as any other cliff. Just stuff some seeds in, wait a year and see what happens. |
